I’m a Meghan Markle Fan…
But these 3 things are still sketchy to me
The Meghan Markle (“MM”) world saturation point has surely been reached so I hate to add to it, but as much as I want to believe wholeheartedly in the fairytale gone wrong due to racism and jealousy and not by anything said or done by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, 3 things in particular stand out to me and I just can’t get past them.
Firstly, what went wrong?
There has been a lot of hate directed at MM, both in the mainstream press and online. While a lot of that is directed at race, from my (admittedly white) point of view as an Australian (and Australia is a Commonwealth country whose Head of State is Queen Elizabeth), we did not see her ethnicity as a big deal at all. In fact, it was no deal. Or if it was, it was seen as a good thing in terms of representation of a lot of people in the 54 countries that make up the Commonwealth.
OK, so she looks caucasian (maybe Spanish or Italian if you had to guess) but even though she is bi-racial, no one I have ever spoken to thought it was relevant.
Also, I am of English heritage and have spent a considerable amount of time in the UK and I find it hard to believe that the average person on the street in the UK was bothered by her ethnicity in the slightest. The…
