So interesting to read your story. An ancestry DNA search showed I am a tiny percentage Jewish with the lineage coming from around Samara in southern Russia. Does that make me "Jewish" even a tiny bit? Probably not as it can't be known if it is through the matriarchal line the whole way, but I must admit theat when my 25yo son brought home a really lovely Jewish girl but insisted they were "just friends" I just happened to mention the DNA link (when we were generally chatting about ancestry etc) so she didn't discount him as a potential husband :)
